    About the Site

    Cliff Rushing, 22, McLean, VA

I am absolutely, horribly, and utterly obsessed with, and addicted to, pro wrestling. This blog serves as a place for me to share some insights into the world of wrestling as I see it because, let's face it, I can't share them with a majority of the outside world. I will review the latest happenings in WWE, and TNA on some occasions.

I will also be sharing a decent amount of personal stories and the benign minutia that is my life. I have few creative outlets, and this is really all I have.

So, in short, I hope to share my love of wrestling and whatever else with anyone else who happen to be as hopeless as I am.

You can contact me at vertizontal@gmail.com for questions, complaints, suggestions, etc.

    Currently Marking For:

WWE Superstars: Chris Jericho, John Cena, CM Punk, Jack Swagger, Christian, The Miz, Edge, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Ted DiBiase, Percy Watson, Cody Rhodes, Zack Ryder

WWE Divas: Eve, Beth Phoenix, Natalya

We were very close to giving Eve a test run as the closer tonight. Decided against it at the last second.
I’m off to bed, hopefully to make up for lost time last night. Still don’t know what happened.
As I got more messages about it, I have added my Facebook profile as a link on my site. So stop asking. You can totally friend me, though. I assume that’s why you want to know?
No new followers to report for today.
I’ll put formspring down here just in case someone has a question or comment. Go for it, man.

    I’m off to bed.
Thanks to the new followers. Never get tired of saying that.
I will never understand how tumblarity works. It’s up by 80, then drops by 175. I is confused. If I ever figure it out, I might just quit the internet because there will be nothing left to accomplish.
Leave me things on formspring, please. Why the hell not?

Formspring is all but dead now. Guess it jumped the shark, and everyone ran out of questions, compliments, and spiteful comments. Fair enough.

    I’m off to bed.
Big thanks to all the new followers. Not only have I made up the 25 I lost, but I’ve surpassed my old total. So I must be doing something right.
Raw was more fun that way. 3 hours will be a lot to ask, though. Especially if there’s no gimmick to it.
As always, my formspring will be here, but I think everyone’s in bed already, so I doubt I’ll have anything to answer when I wake up. Oh well.

    MFK:
    Jericho
    Cena
    HHH

    **********************************************

Ooooh. Toughie. Depends on whether or not I put a wrestling career over my personal preferences.

    M: Jericho
    F: Cena
K: Triple H but I would have to be VERY GOOD about destroying any and all evidence

    *************************************************

if you could only listen to one song from now on what song would that be?

    *************************************************

I would think this should be a hard question for anyone to really answer. I have favorite songs, but would I want to be stuck listening to only one song from now until forever? What kind of situation got me in a place where I can only listen to one song? These are all factors!

In a pinch, I go with Led Zeppelin’s “Achilles Last Stand.” It’s my all-time favorite song by only the greatest band to have ever existed in the history of ever.

I would miss “Cycling” though. A lot.

First, make up a random story about you and anyone. Any genre. On the spot. READY SET GO!

    Toodleloos! :D

    *******************************************************

Didn’t see this until about 20-30 minutes ago. Whoops. Here you go.

This may or may not have actually happened. The names have been changed to protect the guilty. You know, if this had actually happened.

    Breaking When Entering

Michael sat in the room, and to the untrained eye, he appeared to be quite alone. If you’d asked him if was indeed alone, however, he would have told you that he most certainly was not. A guilty conscience can do that to you.

Hours earlier, Michael had been walking around on campus, bored with all his usual haunts. Realizing that he hardly ever inhabited the room he was paying thousands of dollars for, Michael decided he’d pay his room and roommate, Paul, a visit. To his slight dismay, Paul was nowhere to be found upon arrival. Michael assumed he was at class, and looked for a place to sit and wait, but soon realized Paul had completely taken over the “shared” room with his stuff. Michael’s desk was now a makeshift wrestling ring for all of Paul’s action figures, the walls were plastered with posters of all of Paul’s favorite scantily clad women, and his bed had become some sort of dumping ground for all of Paul’s random knickknacks. Michael wasn’t sure whether to be annoyed that he’d been more or less kicked out of his own room, or impressed at the amount of things his buddy had accumulated over the years.

Thinking that he might be alone for awhile, Michael elected to at least try and keep himself entertained before Paul arrived to receive his big surprise. A quick scan of the dorm room revealed only a few even remotely intriguing options. He could either use Paul’s computer to surf the web, reorganize his closet, play with the action figures that had actually been opened, or play the recently acquired Xbox 360. Opting for the 360, Michael switched the system and TV on, and waited. It took him awhile to realize that there wasn’t already a game in the machine. He quickly dug through the top drawer of the dresser before settling on “WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010”. It wasn’t that he was a huge wrestling fan or anything, it just so happened that this was the only game Paul owned for his system. Wondering what the point of buying a $300 game system to play one game was, Michael stuck in the disc and waited for it to load up.

To his utter horror and dismay, Michael heard the 360 click and whir violently, before watching it spark and release a tuft of jet black smoke. Michael realized that he’d broken Paul’s new game system, and was now in a state of panic. The acrid scent of burnt plastic and metal filled the air, so Michael opened a window to air out the closed quarters. He thought about just leaving and hoping Paul wouldn’t notice that his hardware was broken, but decided against it. He’d wait it out and tell Paul if it came up in conversation. He was thankful he was alone in quiet isolation so he could hatch up a good story to relieve the pressure of the confrontation he was sure was coming.

He soon found he didn’t feel alone at all. In fact, it was quite the opposite. He felt as if all of Paul’s posters were staring at him accusingly. It was hard to find them sexy when he found that they were eyeing him judgmentally. As if that weren’t enough, all of Paul’s wrestling action figures seemed to be staring at him, too. It was if dozens of eyes were fixated on him, making him feel all the more guilty about what he’d just done. “This is what I get for coming over to a room that no longer belongs to me,” he thought to himself. Paul’s plush monkey was the worst offender of all. Though it may be incapable of speech or emotion, Michael couldn’t shake the feeling that the stupid monkey was going to sell him out the second Paul arrived. “You saw nothing!,” he screamed at the monkey.

As soon as he finished admonishing Paul’s ape, Michael heard the door click, and Paul himself strode into the room. He gave a start at the sight of Michael, but soon recovered and extended a hand in greeting.

“’Sup, Michael? I haven’t seen your ass in ages. What you been up to, man?”

“Oh, you know. The usual. Class and all that. How about you?”

“A lot of the same, I guess. Gets kinda boring and lonely over here, but I’m getting used to it. It’s good to see you. Hey, how about we play some wrestling? I created us in the game, and gave us a badass entrance and everything! Wanna see?”

    “Oh, I don’t know. I should probably—“

“It’ll only take a second. Here, I’ll show you.”

Michael thought about blurting out what he’d done before Paul figured it out, but he wasn’t fast enough. Paul pushed the power button, and the 360 emitted another tuft of black smoke. Michael shuddered, and waited for the impending explosion of his roommate.

    “What the—“

“I can explain. I just put the disc in, and I—“

“You put the disc in on the wrong side of the loading tray, didn’t you?”

“How was I supposed to know?”

“Not your fault. I made the same mistake the first time I tried to use the stupid thing. It’s under warranty. No big deal.”

    “Really?”

“Yeah, man. Don’t sweat it. Just give me a ride to Best Buy, they’ll replace it.”

Regaining the feeling in his outer extremities, Michael smiled and pulled his keys out of his pocket. All of his fretting had been for nothing. As he turned to exit with Paul, Michael took one last look over his shoulder at the room, resolving to spend a little more time there from now on. With a glance and smirk at Paul’s stuffed monkey, Michael shut off the lights and closed the door behind him.

    Satisfactory?

Alrighty then. I’m off to bed.
Thanks a lot, Patriots. Seriously. GOING FOR IT ON FOURTH DOWN IN YOUR OWN TERRITORY IN PEYTON’S HOUSE??? You deserved to lose. Champions convert, losers do not.
Been fun chatting with you all. I rather enjoy mixing in the personal life with the wrestling. So there.
Thanks to the new followers. We almost made up the gap of the 25 who gave up, so that’s pretty cool.
Keep leaving things. It’s a hell of a lot of fun coming up with these answers.

list your top 5 fav tumblrs, no one will be upset if you dont choose us

    ****************************************************

Riiiiiight. No one will be upset. This is how it starts.

You’re with a group of your girlfriend’s friends, and they’re like, “So, who’s prettiest?” or “If you weren’t dating ____, which one of us would you try to go out with?”

    Guess what?

THERE’S NO RIGHT ANSWER TO THAT FUCKING QUESTION!!!

So, I don’t want to answer this question. Based on my tumblr crushes, it looks like this.

    1. captaincook
    2. comicbooks
    3. ringsidereview (wait. what? HAHAHAHHAHAH. tumblarity whore! liking all my own reblogs…yeahhhh)
    actual 3. withoutavice
    4. wtffxtina
    5. chelseaasodacan

But I also like x0heathercee0x, kayfabe, zachlinder, fakevince, trogdor, survive, the list goes on and on and on. I wouldn’t follow if I didn’t like at least one aspect of something you post. Just how I roll. People pleaser, baby. And selfish. If someone can explain how I continue to survive, let me know.

    Hi Cliff.
    (:
    So.. You majored in English?
What do you want to do with your life?

    **********************************************

Hi. Look at you, trying to get to know me. CooooooL.

Obviously, as an English major, my life’s goal is to wait tables or work reception at some office building. Because that’s all I seem fit to do.

Seriously, though. I want to write, or do something creative. I tried getting internships at local newspapers, but got bubkes in return. The newspaper industry is flaming out. Sad.

I’d love to work for WWE, and would move to Stamford, CT in a heartbeat. I still have the rejection letter I got when I applied for an internship. Cool beans.

I keep attempting to get published somewhere and anywhere, but have been unsuccessful thus far. My summer and fall sucked in terms of finding a career path. I feel like a failure at this point in time.

Teaching would also be a neat gig, but I can’t afford grad school right now. Sigh.

    **************************************************

If you had a bromance with Randy Orton, explain some of the things you’d do together.

You’re creative, so this better be good.

    ****************************************************

This bromance would be strictly platonic. Sorry, no gay fantasies here. Not that anyone would want to read that. This is me we’re talking about. (God, I hope no one would want to read that.)

You called me creative! I smiled!! Thank you kindly.

First, Legacy is no more. I am not second generation anything, and Randy is MY BFF. Take a hike, Ted and Cody. Go forge your own path. You’d be better off, anyway.

Randy would use his considerable backstage pull to get me a run with the title, which we would then have a feud over. Our matches would be legendary.

I would convince him to stop smoking. He has a kid, so it’s a good idea anyway.

We would shit in everyone’s handbags or travel bags. Good times, good times.

Orton would no doubt hook me up with a good girl at some point. He’s a magnet, and I’d definitely benefit.

We’d get matching tattoos. I’ve always wanted one, and this would be a perfect opportunity.

    That’s about it, I think.

    *****************************************************

    Favorite TNA wrestlers?

    *************************************************

AJ Styles, The Motor City Machine Guns, and… perhaps Nigel McGuinness/Desmond Wolfe. I hope he catches on. I’m an Angle mark, too.

    tell me about yourself.

    **********************************************

What do you want to know?

I’m Cliff. I apparently started answering to “ringside” at some point. Which is cool.

Recent college graduate from George Mason University. Majored in English with a non-fiction/editing focus.

Still live in Northern Virginia with my mom. Have no intention of moving out within the next 12 months, but things can change.

I have a younger brother who started college at Virginia Commonwealth University this past August.

I love wrestling. My favorites are Shawn Michaels and Maria. I like Maria a lot. Probably too much depending on who you ask.

I have been to a lot of wrestling events in my time. 2 house shows (both Raw), 3 Raws (4? shit, can’t remember), 1 SD/ECW, 5 PPVs including WrestleMania 25, and am about to attend my 6th (Survivor Series 2006, Cyber Sunday 2007, Armageddon 2007, WrestleMania 25, Night of Champions 2009, Survivor Series 2009)

I’m 22 years old, and my birthday is in September.

    Is that good enough?

    **********************************************

    tell me a story

    ******************************************

I wrote a “short” fictional story for a class last semester that was well received. I’d like to share it, but it’s 16 pages long. I could share it in chunks if anyone’s interested. You have to let me know because I’m a whore when it comes to sharing.

what would you do if one day you woke up and you were a girl

    *****************************************

I’d take the equipment for a test drive, if you know what I’m saying. Yes, that’s a horrible thing to say, but it’s absolutely true.

I’d say stuff to some of the girls I came across in college that I couldn’t say as a guy. Some mean things, some compliments. There are some things I just couldn’t say as me. You know what I mean?

Maybe get my hair or nails done. Just to see what it’s like.

    That’s about it. I think.

Send me more things!! I’m so bored over here. No news to report, the Pats are taking care of business, TNA is putting on a “show.” Talk to me.

Cliff’s Thoughts: Batista vs Rey Mysterio

    http://www.wrestlingnewsarena.com/2009/11/cliffs-thoughts-batista-vs-rey-mysterio/

The Batista heel turn has been long overdue. I’ve wanted it to happen really since he was facing off against John Cena at SummerSlam. Had it not been for Cena’s untimely neck injury, who’s to say he wouldn’t have ended up as a heel? Anyway, I was happy to see it unfold at Bragging Rights, even if it was sorely telegraphed. After all, how often do we see in-ring interviews right after a match? Oh, right. Never!

Batista turned heel in the easiest way possible, picking on Rey Mysterio. Mysterio falls behind the Undertaker and Jeff Hardy in the “I don’t care who’s going after them, I will boo their opponent regardless” category for little kids, so it was a given that he’d immediately have some major heat on him come the next SmackDown (and he did, even if the audience seemed a little confused at first). For his part, Dave has executed the turn very well. His annoyance with Mysterio’s antics seems genuine at times, and any time you bring up the late Eddie Guerrero’s name in vain, you’ve solidified yourself as a villain in my book.

No, my problem lies with how Mysterio has played his role in the whole thing. Unlike Jeff Hardy when his brother Matt turned on him, Mysterio has come off like a whiny little kid as Batista reneges on their friendship. Sure, Jeff didn’t want to hurt Matt at first, but at least he acted like he was pissed off. Rey seems content to simply forgive and move on. It’s hard to buy a feud when one guy acts like his heart isn’t in it.

They took a step in the right direction with Rey’s interview this past SmackDown (even if it was boring as hell. Seriously, Josh Matthews might have a negative amount of charisma). Rey promised Batista would see a side of him none of us have ever seen before. What does that entail, though? Another problem lies with Rey being so damn tiny. I’m not saying he can’t hold his own against Batista, but what can he really do in a regular singles match? From where I sit, I don’t expect too much out of the ordinary.

That said, am I interested in their upcoming Survivor Series match? Yes and no. The crowd dynamic will be interested.I can’t remember the last time we were supposed to boo Batista, but it may have been before WrestleMania 21. My problem is that I feel we are in for a Dusty finish of some kind. I don’t think we’ll have a definitive win or loss in order to prolong the feud. If that’s the case, we all lose in a way.
